England vs New Zealand Highlights and Score | ICC World Twenty 20 – Super Eight Stage ( 29 Sep 2012)
- Final Score: New Zealand – 148/7, England – 149/4 (18.5 overs)
A comprehensive win for England finally. New Zealand, batting first, never really got going with the fall of early wickets. The Kiwis are quite dependent on a brisk start from Brendon McCullum and Martin Guptill to get them going in any T20 game. When both fell cheaply, it was unlikely that NZ would reach a total with which they could challenge England.
It was actually a late flurry of shots from James Franklin who scored a fine half-century that got NZ to 148. But that was never going to be enough.
If NZ were to entertain any hopes, it was to come with quick early blows. Though that didn’t happen, they managed to stifle the scoring in the power play stage, keeping their hopes alive.
The highlights of the match was Luke Wright innings. Wright has been the best batsman for England in Twenty20 cricket, and today he showed why again he is rated so highly in this shortest format of cricket. He made 76 off just 43 balls, and when he finally got out, an England win had all but been achieved.
