Best Football Movies Ever Made! A Top 10 List of Best Soccer Action in Films

We do movies and we do football, so it was kind of about time this list made its presence felt here. We bring you the 10 best football movies ever made. Its about Football as in Futbol and not American Football. The term Soccer had been added so that our American readers don’t confuse it with the other sport.

In most of the movies, football is the center of attraction but in some of them the sport plays a important role if not the main role.

In no particular order, here is the list of best football movies ever made.

10) Mean Machine (2001)

The movie stars hard man and former footballer Vinnie Jones in the lead role and is directed by Barry Skolnick. The movie is about a group of inmates, lead by Vinnie Jones take on the prison guards in a match of football. We all know what happens next.

9) Pelada (2010)

A 2010 documentary about pick-up games, which is directed by  Luke Boughen , Rebekah Fergusson & Gwendolyn Oxenham. Boughen & Oxenham travel to about 25 countries and play the local versions of the game. Football lovers will definitely dig this.

8) Green Street Hooligans (2005)

The movie focuses purely on hooliganism involved in football. Maybe it has died down in the past few years but nobody can ignore that it used to be a big part of the games. The movie stars Elijah Wood and Charlie Hunman.

7) Goal! The Dream Begins (2005)

The movie got famous as a number of familiar faces made appearances. Players such as Zidane, Beckham, Gerrard and even Titus Bramble.

6) A Shot at Glory (2000)

Robert Duvall is perhaps the most recognizable Hollywood face which can be associated with football. In the movie Duvall manages a made up Scottish club known as Kilnockie whose main strike is played by professional player Ally McCoist.

5) United (2011)

United is a tv movie directed by James Strong which focuses on Manchester United’s famous Busby Babes and also on the Munich disaster.

4) Will (2011)

It is a movie about a boy who travels to Istanbul for the Champions League final between AC Milan and Liverpool. Quite well done.

3) Bend It Like Beckham (2002)

Directed by Gurinder Chandha, it stars Parminder Nagra, Keira Knightley & Jonathan Rhys-Meyers. Quite hilarious at times.

2) Escape to Victory (1981)

It is one of the best football movies ever made. Its about a group of prisoners in a German Prison camp, coached by Michael Caine who plays as an ex West Ham player. It also stars Sylvester Stallone and also features legends like Bobby Moore and Pele.

1) The Damned United (2009)

Directed by Tom Hooper, The Damned United features Michael Sheen as Brian Clough and his tenure as the manager of Leeds United. Michael Sheen is great in the movie.
