Doncaster clinch promotion under amazing circumstances and with a James Coppinger goal

[ad#m1] League One’s season finished off with a scintillating finish at Griffin Park. Doncaster Rovers managed a 1-0 win over Brentford in bizarre circumstances and clinched promotion to the Championship.

Brentford, on the other hand, will need to try out their luck in the play-offs to achieve promotion.

This is Football at its most dramatic.

Before the match Doncaster were placed in the second position and below them on the third position were Brentford who needed a win to achieve automatic promotion.

And it looked like a perfect night for the home side when they awarded a stoppage time penalty. Marcello Trotta, on loan from Fulham stepped up and decided to hit a furious shot. Unfortunately, it hit the bar and on the rebound Doncaster counter attacked and James Coppinger struck the goal in front of the away supporters.
