Costa Rican international Cristian Gamboa became Brendan Rodgers’ fifth signing of the summer on Tuesday after completing his move from West Brom. The pacy right back impressed under then West Brom manager Alan Irvine but the arrival of Tony Pulis has seen him frozen out of the first team.
Brendan Rodgers seems to have identified his side as needing a major pace injection with the acquisitions of speedsters Scott Sinclair and Moussa Dembele. Gamboa, who is known for his notoriously blistering pace will no doubt fulfill that need as well.
A full back by trade, Gamboa also thrives in a wing-back role, having played there for Costa Rica. The right back is better known for his instinctive attacking forays, forward bursts and overlaps with wingers. With Rodgers trying to implement a fast counter attacking style, the right back may well fit seamlessly into the system.
And at 26 years of age, with international pedigree, the £1 million transfer fee seems like a real coup for the Scottish champions. Watch the full back in action in the highlights package below!
