The match between Liverpool and Chelsea lived up to its billing- it was touted to be one of the best matches of the season, a match which had the potential to send out warnings to rivals and cement the title aspirations of either team.
And on such a night, it was Liverpool who stepped up. Chelsea were chasing shadows from the start and a routine goal from defender Dejan Lovren put the Reds in front. Although Chelsea never looked comfortable in possession, it was clear that Liverpool would need to kill off the match with another goal.
Then came the best moment of the match; Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson belted in a screamer from thirty yards out after intercepting a weak Cahill clearance. The ball arced audaciously over the stretched hands of Courtois, into the far top corner.
Stamford Bridge was astounded by the sheer audacity of the strike, and this was the most evident on those who had a clear view of the wonder goal- the Chelsea bench.
Victor Moses looked like he just got burned, Ola Aina echoing the bewilderment with his jaw hanging. But it was Michy Batshuayi’s expression that summed up Chelsea’s feelings. It was one of clear resignation and surprise, that stemmed from the gulf in determination and work-rate of the playing teams.
And although Chelsea pulled one back, the truth is that they never looked like winning the match. Check out the faces in the Chelsea bench below!
