Leeds United ran out clear winners against Cardiff City this week to continue the fine run of form under Garry Monk, the former Swansea captain and manager. And at the thick of things was defender Pontus Jansson.
The Swede, who was signed on loan from Torino this season, has already established himself as one of the first names on the team-sheet having only played three games for the club so far.
On Saturday, the defender had a 100% tackling record, two interceptions, an astounding seventeen clearances and to top it off, he completed 33 out of his 36 attempted passes. He also had one block and won 2 aerial duels and even earned the penalty through which Leeds opened the scoring. The spirited Swede was all over the pitch and rightly had the Leeds fans absolutely gushing over his display.
Jansson has completed a whopping 107 of his 121 passes (88%) since joining and his pairing with Kyle bartley appears to be Leeds’ best partnership at the heart of the defence at the present.
Leeds United have a new talisman but there needs to be 20 appearances for him this season for the move to be made permanent. It should feel as a formality right now as the 25 year old has not faltered when asked to deliver, unless the mad Italian in charge of the club decides to do something against the norm.
