Tottenham made short work of their 3rd round opponents, Gillingham, defeating them 5-0 to seal progress in the EFL Cup on Wednesday. Christian Eriksen scored a brace, whereas Erik Lamela bagged a hat-trick of assists and a goal to his name.
The win was a routine one, but one of it’s most awaited moments came towards the end of the match, when Tottenham starlet Marcus Edwards made his much awaited senior debut off the bench.
The 17-year old Englishman was compared to none other than Leo Messi himself by his own coach in the pre-match presser, owing to his playing style and dribbling skills.
The youngster almost scored a Messi-esque goal too; he received the ball on the right side of the attack, then proceeded to twist and turn past 4 defenders, before unleashing a venomous shot from just outside the box that stung the palms of the goalkeeper.
With the amount of talent evident in the Englishman, all he needs is the correct management and coaching, to at least challenge the legendary La Pulga.
