West Ham United overcame Accrington Stanley 1-0 to progress into the fourth round of the EFL cup on Wednesday.
Despite the win, it was a poor showing from the Premier League side who have struggled to get their season up and running. Star man Dimitri Payet was once again the hero for his side scoring a stupendous freekick with virtually the last kick of the match.
Accrington Stanley had stood firm for most of the match, at times pressing the issue but in the end Payet’s moment of brilliance proved the difference.
While the free-kick in itself was a beauty, what followed was something you don’t often see in modern football, as Accrington’s Matthew Pearson applauded the goal that had just eliminated them from the League Cup.
