Questions of “life after Kane” were put to rest on Saturday, as Tottenham comfortably beat Middlesbrough 2-1 away on Saturday. Son Heung-Min stepped up in the absence of their main man, scoring a superb first half brace to put the game to rest. It was his second brace in a fortnight, the earlier one coming against Stoke earlier this month.
Pochettino made a host of changes to his starting line-up, giving starts to new arrivals Vincent Janssen and Moussa Sissoko. Which meant the usual flair and skill of Erik Lamela was missing. The Argentine midfielder did get to play a few minutes when he replaced Sissoko in the 70th minute.
Bamboozling Boro defenders with his wit and quick feet, Lamela pulled off a brilliant nutmeg, sliding the ball through the legs of an onrushing George Friend and evading a crunching tackle in the process.
