Chelsea produced a dominant second half display at the KCOM Stadium to beat Hull City 2-0 on Saturday. The goals came from two excellent finishes by Willian and in-form striker Diego Costa.
It wasn’t just the goals that were impressive about Chelsea, but their new-found rigidity and stability in the back. Antonio Conte shifted his formation to a back three with Gary Cahill, David Luiz and Cesar Azpilicueta as center-backs and Victor Moses & new signing Marcos Alonso as wing-backs.
Whereas Branislav Ivanovic’s season hit a new low as he was relegated to the bench. The Serbian has been one of the mainstays at the club in the Abramovich era, but now, fans & the management alike appears to have lost their patience with him.
After horrendous defensive showings by the left-back against Swansea and recently against Arsenal, fans and pundits alike have been clamoring for the man to be dropped.
And yesterday, when it happened, they did not shirk away from showing their appreciation for the decision on social media. With many seemingly believing that Ivanovic being dropped from the lineup directly resulted in a clean sheet against Hull.

What a surprise! Conte drops Ivanovic and we get a clean sheet! About time he lost his place, should have happened a season ago.#cfc
