Class is permanent: Newcastle legend Alan Shearer scores trademark one touch volley in a charity match

Kingston Park was the venue for a legends charity match on Sunday as a Newcastle Entertainers XI took on a Manchester United Select XI with all proceedings going towards the Alan Shearer Foundation.

And the 6000-odd fans who attended the match were left reeling with nostalgia, as the man himself, Alan Shearer, rolled back the years with a brilliantly taken goal.

The Newcastle legend showed exactly why he is considered to be as Premier League’s greatest ever striker.

After a belter of a pass from Scott Sellars, Shearer ghosted into the box behind the defence, as he so often did in his prime and put the Newcastle side ahead with a deft side-footed volley into the far post.

And as expected, the legend then ran off with his trademark arm-in-the-air celebration, saluting the supporters.

Alan Shearer showed yesterday that he still has what it takes in terms of a footballing brain, reinforcing the saying “class is permanent”.

The game ended 2-2, check out the fan footage of the goal below!
