As England took on Malta in the World Cup qualifiers last night, Jesse Lingard showed the world once again that hard work and determination ultimately pay dividends.
The Manchester United attacker made his senior England debut in yesterday’s 2-0 win over Malta and ended up earning praise from Gareth Southgate (who also made his debut as England manager).
The Warrington born attacker had a stand-out 2015-16 season, finally breaking into the Manchester United first team after 14 years with the club.
The midfielder continued his fine form into the new season scoring the winner in the Community Shield tie against Leicester City.
While Lingard has yet to feature regularly for Jose Mourinho this season, the fact that the 23 year old has created more chances (per 90 minute) than any other player in the Premier League this season highlights the winger’s telling contribution to the team.
