With the International break coming to a close this week, the Premier League returns to action once more with some interesting clashes. The pick of the matches this week, though, is the resumption of one of the biggest rivalries in football in the form of Liverpool versus Manchester United on Monday.
The Red Devils travel to Anfield, after an unconvincing start under new manager Jose Mourinho, whereas Liverpool have finally started to draw upon their potential, having beaten Chelsea and Arsenal away already. The Reds have also humbled the defending champions 4-1 at Anfield.
Looking at the combined eleven of the match put up by WhoScored, though, it is Liverpool who are under-represented with five players. But the differences in the style of the teams are clear, with the offensive players mostly being made up from the Reds, except for record-signing Paul Pogba and the ever-mercurial Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
But United are heavily represented in the defence, with David de Gea between the sticks and the defensive trio of Bailly, Blind, and Valencia. The left-back spot goes to Liverpool’s James Milner though, for his consistent performances even when played out of position.
The prospect of the youthful Liverpool attack going against the United defence seems like a lip-smacking thought, and come Monday, we will see who comes out on top.
