The appointment of Mourinho this summer saw him reunited with former Chelsea player Juan Mata who he had sold to United in 2014. Needless to say, the press and the world watched anxiously on what would develop between the player and manager.
But ever since then, Mata has featured more than one would have imagined at the start of the season. But clearly not regularly enough if the below statistic is to be believed.
Points won in the Premier League by Man Utd this season:

When Juan Mata doesn’t start = 1 out of 12 pic.twitter.com/8B0jfS2jEu

Mata has been shown to be influential in the league when picked and the stats are there to prove it: Man United have drawn just 1 and won 4 in games where Mata has started. In games where the Spaniard has started Man United have drawn 1 and lost 3.
On the back of such compelling facts its difficult to fathom just why Mourinho didn’t start the Spaniard against Chelsea last week.
