Newcastle United’s 6-0 trashing of Preston North End saw goals from Mitrovic, Diame, Ritchie and Perez put their opponents to the swords.
Alexander Mitrovic made one of his rare starts against Preston and he did little to hid the excitement after putting in a solid shift on Tuesday. In an interview with Serbian tabloid Blic, the striker talked on the importance of scoring for self confidence while also hoping that the national team manager was watching.
After a long period of time, I was given a chance and I used it. Goals are very important to me, especially for my self confidence. Coach Benitez congratulated me after the game on my performance, but didnt give a deeper analysis. I am hoping manager Muslin (Serbian National team) was watching as well.
He also talked vividly about the fan ambience of St.James’ Park and the incredible support of the fans.
It was a beautiful atmosphere on St. James’ Park during the whole game, but when I heard the chants after the game, my heart wanted to burst out of my chest. Its really enjoyable when fans love you, hell I can’t even describe the satisfaction. I am very grateful for the support and I hope I will continue to perform like this. I want to repay them with goals and good games
With regards to his goal celebration that earned him a yellow card, Mitrovic pointed to his stubborn self and inability to control himself as being the reasons for his over the top celebrations.
I simply can’t control how happy I am. Its stronger then me. I don’t think its good for my career for me to get easy cards, but that’s me.
The striker is already a fan favourite and if he can add more goals on a more consistent basis, a legendary status awaits.
