Liverpool finally do look the part of being genuine title contenders this season as they sit top having lost just once this season. This remarkable run has also seen them plunder a whopping 30 goals in just 11 games this season. Very surprisingly, considering they have the 5th shortest squad in the league, 12 of those have come from set pieces.
Compare that to last season’s total tally of 15 set piece goals and it belies just how much they have improved on their dead ball threat. While the departure of Benteke was seen as undermining Liverpool’s dead ball threat, the performances of Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren inside the box have proved to be more than an apt replacement for the big Belgian.
