Pics: Leeds & Newcastle players warming up in the no.11 shirt as a tribute to Gary Speed yesterday

Five years ago, the football world mourned the loss of Gary Speed. The Welsh winger was a cherished figure in a number of British clubs, including Leeds United and Newcastle United, and his premature death at 41 years of age is still a saddening loss to many fans today.

Leeds and Newcastle took on each other in a much-anticipated Championship fixture yesterday and both the clubs didn’t pass off on the opportunity to pay tribute to their former player.

Both sets of players did the warm up before the match wearing shirts with Speed’s name and squad number at the back, in a touching gesture to one of British football’s most liked figures.
