The arrival of Mohamed Elneny from Basel in the winter transfer window last season was received as a typical Wenger signing. Le Professeur had a history of signing relatively unproven youngsters from the lower leagues, and the 23-year-old was no different.
However, after eleven months, Elneny has become a part of the Gunners’ much-rotated central midfield, and has had impressive partnerships with fellow midfielders Aaron Ramsey and Francis Coquelin.
Ahead of Arsenal’s League Cup quarterfinal tie against Southampton tonight, Elneny was pictured having some fun with Ramsey. The Egyptian is seen teaching, or rather trying to teach his Welsh teammate some basic football tactics in Arabic.
