Leeds United under their new manager Garry Monk have been flying high in the Championship this season. The Yorkshire club are in the hunt for promotion back to the Premier League, and have received backing for their aspirations from an unlikely source – Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel.
When asked his opinion about the club on Soccer AM yesterday, the Dane spoke of the “electric” atmosphere at Elland Road and compared the rivalry between Man United and Leeds to the Liverpool-United rivalry.
The last time the clubs met was over five years ago, in the League Cup when United prevailed 3-0 at Elland Road. A return for Leeds would see the rekindling of the famous Roses Rivalry; and considering the way Leeds are playing, it would not be a surprise to see the club in the Premier League next season.
