Liverpool’s hard fought 1-0 win over Manchester City not only ensured they kept pace with league leaders Chelsea, but also extended the gap between themselves and City. The two teams had been neck in neck until that game, but Jurgen Klopp’s men currently seem the likeliest to challenge Chelsea for the title.
Whilst defensive stability has often eluded the Reds this season, they managed to scrap a victory here largely due to their willingness to play as a team. This has been a key trait of how Klopp has built this side; the players are meant to do everything for the team, nothing is more important.
However, star man Roberto Firmino displayed some superb individual skill early in the game. Carrying the ball on the left wing, the Brazilian kept drifting wider whilst making zigzag runs, luring Raheem Sterling towards him. He then used a Cruyff turn with pace to nutmeg Sterling, leaving him for dead in the process.
