Any chance Liverpool had of continuing to turn the pressure up on league leaders Chelsea came to a screeching halt as they were held to a hard-fought 2-2 draw by Sunderland. Jermaine Defoe’s penalty goals either side of half time were enough to earn the Black Cats a precious point against the Reds.
Despite being a little sombre in the aftermath of dropping points, manager Jurgen Klopp found the time to make a small little joke during the presser.
Whilst fielding a question relating to fixture congestion during the festive season, Klopp pointed out that his side had played three games in 6 days. When it was mentioned that it was in fact Southampton who had played three in 6 and not the Reds, Klopp sarcastically called the Saints “lucky bastards” to the delight of the journalists present.
