Wayne Rooney placed himself in the elite hall of fame at Old Trafford yesterday during United’s 4-0 thrashing of Reading by scoring his 249th goal, thus, equaling the all time record of highest club goals held by Sir Bobby Charlton.
At full time though, it appeared that Rooney’s celebration was mired by an incident when he offered his jersey to Reading’s George Evans but was snubbed in return and left red-faced.
But the Reading midfielder, who is a product of Man City’s academy took to Twitter by displaying Rooney’s shirt and clarifying that he initially refused it only out of respect towards Reading fans after the heavy loss.
Evans later accepted Rooney’s shirt in the tunnels and even congratulated him for his record. Check out Evans’ tweet below –
