Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld bags the 2016 MOTD defender of the year award (Photo)

BBC’s Match Of The Day is one of the best selling magazines that cover the world of English football, its players, transfer rumors, latest news and exclusive interviews.

A much-awaited annual highlight of the magazine is the MOTD Awards of the Year, wherein titles are conferred on best players, team of the season, and the like.

To the delight of Tottenham fans, their star defender Toby Alderweireld has been named the MOTD Defender of the Year 2016. The Belgian expressed gratitude by thanking the magazine through his social media accounts, saying he was proud to win the award.

The much decorated Belgian has been felicitated before with accolades such as Tottenham Hotspur’s Player of the Year, and has also previously found a spot in the defensive line ups of Europa League’s Squad of the Season as well as PFA’s Team of the Year.
