It is often said stats don’t tell the whole story but a most recent stat (see below) emerging out of Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld might just defy the popular saying with the stat just about summing up the Belgian’s performances since his joined the North London club.
The English play-style is famous for not being known to be an ideal place for soft playing styles, and qualities like aggressiveness are an essential part of any defenders plying their trade in the Premier League.
Isn’t it then just inevitable for aggressive players, especially defenders, to have a long list of bookings adding ill repute to their careers? Well, certainly not if you are Toby Alderweireld.
Alderweireld has been a colossus at the back for an impressive Tottenham side boasting one the best defensive records in the division. The Belgian’s strong tackling skills along with a keen sense of awareness has seen him drawn comparisons with legendary defender Ledley King who himself had a penchant for steering clear of fouls and cards.

With such incredible stats and level of performances, Alderweireld could well establish himself as a world class defender provided he steer clear of injuries and the dirty side of the game.
