The clash between Liverpool and Chelsea proved to be a resurgence of sorts for Jurgen Klopp, as a much-improved Liverpool portrayed some new-found vigor following a string of recent poor performances.
It was David Luiz who made things hard for the Reds, after the Brazilian’s superb 25-yard freekick in the first half put Chelsea ahead and left Liverpool’s Mignolet absolutely red-faced.
But the goalkeeper made up for his embarrassment in the second half, as his penalty save against Diego Costa, coupled with midfielder Geroginio Wijnaldum’s close header, inevitably made the two sides settle for a 1-1 draw.
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, who has had some painful Chelsea memories of his own, witnessed the encounter from the BT Studio, and his exhilarating reaction to Wijnaldum’s equalizer conveyed the elation and relief that surely must have echoed with each and every Liverpool fan watching the game.
