It’s safe to say that this season has been a breakout one for Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli. The young midfielder has flourished since being placed in a more attacking role by Mauricio Pochettino, regularly getting on the score-sheet.
Besides being complete in terms of ability, it is also necessary for young players to learn how to show maturity in their on-field behaviour, particularly in the face of adversity.
Younger players are more instinctive when it comes to reacting during skirmishes, and the Spurs man certainly had a reputation last season, when it came to showing discipline on the pitch.
No anymore though it seems, as a potentially explosive situation that occurred during Spurs’ 1-0 win over Middlesbrough showed how the young midfielder has matured.
Victor Valdes, in full wind-up mode, raised his hand on Alli and pushed his face not once, but twice. Rather than react, Alli just gestured to the referee and walked away.
