Tottenham didn’t look like a side that could potentially challenge for the Premier League early in the season. Whilst they won games, the style of play they employed was reliant on individual moments of brilliance. In particular, the midfield seemed to lack any real thrust and mobility going forward.
This was a problem that was solved when Mousa Dembele started playing regularly. The Belgian is one of the best ball carriers in the Premier League; he is extremely hard to dispossess, especially when on the run. He’s also excellent at taking on and beating his men, creating openings for the attackers.
Interestingly, a recent stats comparison made by a Spurs stats account showed just how good his dribbling has been this season when compared to that of world class players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Neymar.
