Despite Liverpool functioning in a way that does not in fact focus on an individual over the team, one of the surprise packages of this season has been Reds attacker Adam Lallana. Playing in a more central role, the Englishman has been something of a revelation, notching goals and assists on the regular.
Therefore, when he recently signed a contract extension that saw him get a significant pay raise, no one could say it wasn’t well earned. Except in the age of social media, nothing is really off limits in terms of discussions.
One of the most interesting points raised by one Liverpool fan was why the club couldn’t fork out similar wages to sign Julian Draxler, considered by many to be the next big thing in German football. The argument split their fans right down the middle; whilst many saw the benefits of bringing in the German, just as many seemed more content with Lallana’s contract extension.
Check out the reaction below:
23-year-old, Draxler, is on around €170k per week at PSG. We are giving 28-year-old (almost 29), Lallana, £150k per week. Perspective….

We're willing to give 28 year old Adam Lallana 150k a week but weren't for Draxler? Most backwards club I've ever know

LFC refused to meet the demands of Draxler who wanted 170k a week, but are happy to pay Lallana 150k a week? Doesn't make sense.. #LFC

Should Liverpool have turned down Julian Draxler because of his wage demands if they were planning to give Adam Lallana £150k a week?

Welcome to Liverpool FC, where it is okay to pay £150/wk for Lallana & £100k/wk for Lovren but paying £170k/wk for Draxler is just too much.

Draxler, 23 y/o, €170k p/w. LFC : just too much.
Lallana, 29 y/o, £150k p/w. LFC : okay!

Who the fuck cares what we're paying Lallana as long as he plays well. Only wish we could give those wages to new signings too, like Draxler

We'll pay £150k a week for Lallana but not pay £20m for Draxler who's twice the player Lallana is. Liverpool that. #LFC

Add salt to the wound, we're about to pay lallana basically the same as Draxler gets at PSG….something wrong here. #Lfc
