To say that Liverpool haven’t had a very good 2017 would be something of an understatement. The Reds went from being legit title contenders to fighting for a top four place. Their 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspurs was their first win of the new year and it couldn’t have come at a better time.
A loss to Spurs would have all but ended their title hopes. However, a dominating performance that featured a quick-fire Sadio Mane double was enough to keep them in the title hunt. Meanwhile, Spurs’ dismal record away from home against top sides continues as Pochettino’s men looked clueless against a superior Liverpool.
Whilst Spurs definitely didn’t turn up, they were never in for much of a chance to begin with; Liverpool stuck to their game-plan and pulled it off well. In fact, they were so dominant throughout the game that they stayed ahead of Spurs for a total of 72 minutes with a 2 goal lead; the first time this has happened for the London side since the start of the 2015/16 season.

Spurs were behind by two goals for more minutes tonight (72) than they’d been in total in the league since the start of last season (42).
