Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspurs was the Red’s first Premier League victory of 2017. Whilst the stat is undoubtedly a demonstration of how poor the Reds have been so far this year, this week’s game saw them playing close to their best potential. This was, in all likeliness, not a coincidence.
The return of Sadio Mane was always something that was going to reinvigorate Jurgen Klopp’s men. The Senegalese attacker is a key component of the Liverpool machine; not only is his high energy and pace necessary in ball recovery and starting attacks, but he’s a regular in the goals and assists department.
This was again the case against Spurs as Mane netted a quick-fire double to ensure all three points went Liverpool’s way. His performance was so good that he even made the European Team of the Week in the Gazetta dello Sport’s list.
