Football, like any competitive sport, is built on healthy rivalries. The best matches are often those that have a little edge for whatever reason; it’s the way it has always been and the way things will remain. Even the most run of the mill match has a competitive edge to it; it’s why we love sports to begin with.
However, many have seen that sport can bring the world together like few things can. Football is one of the most popular sports in the world, if not the most popular; beneath all the rivalries, there are sure to be some respectful ones as well. A recent social media post brought another respectful rivalry back in the minds of people.
A Liverpool fan recently posted a video of the time when Liverpool and Barcelona fans took turns to serenade each others’ fanbases nearly a decade ago. If nothing else, it is a good reminder of the fact that fanbases can respect one another whilst being competitive.
The moment occurred during the second leg of the Round of 16 match between the two sides at Anfield. Liverpool lost the match 1-0 but went through to the next round courtesy of two away goals.
