Newcastle United reclaimed the top spot on the Championship table with a hard-earned 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Monday.
Yoan Gouffran opened the score for Newcastle before half time with a strategically placed kick just four yards away from the goal.
An unfortunate own goal by Villa’s Henri Lansbury following commotion in the defence resulted in a second goal for the Rafa Benitez-led side.
While Newcastle suffered a major setback in the first half after the Championship’s top scorer Dwight Gayle had to leave the pitch due to recurrence of his injury, the unfortunate event provided an opportunity for Aleksandar Mitrovic to come into the game.
The Serbian made a big impact with his arrival and provided the crucial assist to Gouffran. And apart from his contribution, an overtly enthusiastic Mitrovic also celebrated the goal by thrashing defender Paul Dummett’s head in sheer excitement, a clipping of which can be seen below.
