Even before Chelsea managed to beat Swansea 3-1 and extend their lead at the top of the table to 11 points, Blues fans knew they’d be in for a treat when they visited Stamford Bridge on Saturday. The club’s official website had announced that Frank Lampard would get a lap of honour at half-time.
It was the least the club could do to honour the recently retired midfielder; Lampard was a key figure in Chelsea’s early rise to the top of English football and is currently the all-time highest goalscorer for the club. Even spending a season at title rivals Manchester City didn’t diminish the love Chelsea fans have for him.
It turns out the love wasn’t just shared with fans alone. Whilst coming off the lap of honour, the Chelsea players were returning to the field for the beginning of the second half. During this time, Lamps was spotted sharing a hug with Eden Hazard, showing the kind of respect the Belgian had for him.
