Leeds’ 1-0 win over rivals Sheffield Wednesday might not have been the prettiest win, but it more than got the job done. At this point of the season results matter a lot more than the performance does, and that is the kind of attitude that Garry Monk has imbibed into this particular Leeds side.
Aside from Chris Woods’ goal, any action in and around the penalty area was hard to come by for the most part. However, Leeds did show plenty of character and resilience. Rob Green turned an unlikely hero to deny Jordan Rhodes from a spot kick. Amazingly, that wasn’t the only time that Wednesday were denied by sheer willpower.
With an attacker looking to cross the ball in, both Gaetano Berardi and Pontus Jansson went in to block the cross. Amazingly, both pulled off the block at the exact same time, showing just how willing they were to ensure Leeds got away with all three points.
