After taking over the mantle at Manchester United, manager Jose Mourinho’s intention to bring back glory days for the club was clear from his immediate decisions.
It was in the summer of 2016 that United announced the signing of Paul Pogba from Juventus. The Frenchman’s transfer cost the club a massive £89 million, making him the most expensive footballer in the world.
Pogba has made a significant impact in his club’s midfield this season. Statistics show that the 23 year old has completed over 80% of his passes in the opposition half and has even pulled off 70% of his tackles successfully.
Pogba’s incredibly long limbs have clearly helped the midfielder in this regard and that is exactly what United players kept in mind while coming up with a nickname for him.
In a club video (seen below), players Lingard and Rashford referred to the Frenchman as ‘Octopus’ while striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic was given the title of ‘The Beast.’
