With a 5-1 win over Reading, Liverpool U-23 not only confirmed the presence of abundant talent that the club’s future holds in store, but played so well that even the first squad led by manager Jurgen Klopp would have been left red-faced.
Rhian Brewster’s brace helped the 16-year old affirm his potential while Joe Gomez, Ben Woodburn and Nat Phillips also found the net to help their side reach the third spot on the PL 2 table.
The brilliant young Reds subjected their opponents to some royal thrashing, especially at the hands of in-form players like Brewster and Woodburn.
While Reading did manage to find some chinks in Liverpool’s defence, the Reds were virtually scoring at will with deadly counter-attacks, and their fourth goal was clear proof of this.
After winning the ball from the opposition, Liverpool midfielders broke away with sublime precision and helped the youngest goal scorer in the club’s history, Ben Woodburn, find the net with a thundering finish.
