Very few players in the world of football enjoy immense respect that cuts across every major club’s fan base, and Xabi Alonso is undoubtedly one of them.
It was, therefore, hardly any surprise to see heart-warming tributes pouring in from everybody associated with the game when the Spaniard announced his decisions to hang up his boots at the end of this season.
After a highly successful career that saw him win everything, including the World Cup, Champions League, and domestic titles with big clubs in multiple countries, the midfielder decided to retire from football this summer.
Apart from incredible farewell messages from many big footballers it was undoubtedly Alonso’s ex-Liverpool team mate Steven Gerrard’s message that won hearts all over.
And since the two players played many memorable games together during five triumphant years at Anfield, fans did not expect to see Gerrard spell Alonso’s name wrong in his tribute, as it can be seen below.
