Strong tifo game from the Celtic fans for the Rangers clash yesterday (Photos)

Through the years, tifo – the Italian word for supporting a sports team and now representative of choreography displayed by fans at stadiums – has become an art form. Borussia Dortmund are famed for their intimidating ‘Yellow Wall’, Galatasaray fans create a notoriously intimidating atmosphere in while Japanese fans have almost made it a competitive sport in its own right.

Celtic fans showed yesterday that they were not to be left behind, bringing out their creativity for their big game against arch-nemesis Rangers. A section of Celtic Park momentarily resembled an artistic installation as a fantastic banner depicting club legends was surrounded in a sea of green and white. Some co-ordination that:

Unfortunately, it’s not an Old Firm derby without some controversy. Religion has always been a contentious point at the heart of the rivalry, and while the previous display had a subtle play on faith, the half-time banner from the Celtic fans chose to rip right through Rangers with some harsh words about their recent financial woes amongst other sensitive issues.

    What is the link of the half time banner to religion?! There is no sectarian element to either of the displays.
