Arsenal Twitter explodes after reports emerge saying that Arsene Wenger has decided to stay

In a development that is bound to be met with derision from large parts of the fan base, a number of reports have emerged that Arsene Wenger wishes to remain at the helm of affairs at the Emirates.

John Cross wrote in The Mirror that no final decision had been taken as the club maintains that actions concerning Wenger’s future would be “mutual”. Arsenal are currently on a run of four losses in five games and are dangerously close to losing out on Champions’ League football for the first time under Wenger – a situation which had earlier been seen as enough to prompt the Frenchman to leave the club.

The situation has been exacerbated following reports that Mesut Ozil had been dropped for the game against West Brom on the pre-text of an ‘injury’ when in fact his absence could stem from his contract negotiations stalling.

Similar grumblings from Alexis Sanchez and terrible recent form have increased the scrutiny on Wenger – but articles by The Telegraph‘s Jeremy Wilson and Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail hint at a briefing which would seem to confirm Wenger’s desire to remain.

Understandably, social media is abuzz with Gunners’ supporters and football fans alike voicing their opinions on the matter, adding to the incredible stream of content the Arsenal manager’s future has generated.

An announcement is awaited, with Arsenal understood to be looking at good timing keeping in mind the contract status of Ozil and Sanchez.
