Pic: The Times with a badly exaggerated graphic of Adam Lallana’s miss for Liverpool v City

The media can be a cruel mistress. It can raise the status of a player to that of a legend; it can attempt to kill a career if it so pleases. Gross exaggeration is no stranger to football reporting, nor is wilful extrapolation at times.

The Times seemed to make the most of their ‘journalistic license’ in their depiction of Adam Lallana’s shocking miss in the 1-1 draw between Liverpool and Manchester City.

It was a glaring error, but the graphic seems to defy the laws of ball physics. Indeed the “trajectory” of Lallana’s shot would not look out of place in a toddler’s drawing book.

The England midfielder will probably not be renewing his subscription to the newspaper any time soon.
