Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte – two managers markedly different in their demeanour. Mourinho is more calculating and likely to vent his emotions through jibes in the post-match, while Conte wears his heart on his sleeve and likes to focus on matters on the pitch.
However, like all successful managers, they are both born winners who know the importance of big results.
On the face of it, Chelsea’s 2-1 away victory over Stoke may seem a routine win – but it was a match won by character as much as anything. It was a true test of champion’s grit as Conte’s men came through with flying colours – a game the likes of which define title-winning seasons.
Any proof required of the importance of the result can be found in footage of Mourinho and his Chelsea team engaging in similarly charged celebrations after a 1-0 victory at Ewood Park in 2005. The Portuguese knew exactly what it meant and showed it in his exuberance.
Chelsea would go on to win the title that season – in Mourinho’s first season in charge. History repeating itself at Stamford Bridge this year? One certainly wouldn’t bet against it.
