It’s a matter of pride when a club can claim to contribute numbers to the national team – World Cup winning Italy of 1970 may as well have been called Juventus 2.0, for instance. The modern game has scattered players all over nowadays, so it may be considered an even more prestigious feat.
A leaked line-up ahead of the World Cup Qualifier between Brazil and Uruguay shows that Liverpool forwards Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino have been given starting berths. Considering that the duo is rounded out by superstar Neymar, that is some forward line.
Anfield fans would be chuffed that their players are starters for a team as celebrated as Brazil in a match against their regional arch-rivals. Who knows – maybe we might see some “heavy-metal football” to go with “joga bonito”
