Sergio Romero might only be called upon for Cup ties for Manchester United, but he remains the No. 1 for the Argentinean national team. And he certainly showed his ability in their crunch World Cup qualifier against Chile – his goaltending, as well as his street smartness.
With Argentina leading through a Lionel Messi penalty, they were keen on holding on to their advantage against a team who had caused them much heartbreak in the past couple of years. To the extent that Romero was even caught by cameras asking the ball boy to take it easy at one point – maybe he was doing his job too efficiently?
The Albiceleste managed to pick up the three points eventually as their defence held on determinedly. Romero did a commendable job between the sticks, though people might be underrating his on the playmaking skills – after all, he certainly made an attempt to control the tempo of the game.
