Leeds United seven game unbeaten run came to an end as a 21st minute goal from Yann Kermorgant in the first half gave Reading all three points on Saturday.
Garry Monk’s men, who for most part of the season have been in superb form failed to muster enough quality to secure the win that would have consolidated their promotion hopes.
While Leeds talisman Pablo Hernandez had a poor game by his standards, it was business as usual with regard to his notorious nutmeg as the Spaniard pulled off yet another one, this time a sublime reverse nutmeg over Jordon Mutch in the second half.
Aside from that moment of skill though, the 31-year old otherwise had little to show for in a laboured evening at the Madejski Stadium as Leeds surrendered fourth spot to the hosts.
