Ever since making the move to Liverpool in the summer of 2013, Brazilian midfielder Philippe Coutinho has taken the Premier League by storm becoming an integral part of the Liverpool attacking set up.
Having only recently made a return from a two month injury lay off, the midfielder was phenomenal again in the latest Merseyside derby as he scored one, assisted another and played a vital role in yet another one to help Liverpool record a 3-1 victory over their derby rivals.
Coutinho’s form over the season has led one BBC pundit to rank him alongside Eden Hazard and N’Golo Kante as contenders for the player of the season.
Citing Coutinho’s ankle injury which kept Coutinho out for nearly two months, the BCC pundit Garth Crooks believes that had it not been for the injury, the Liverpool man would be clear favourite for the award at the end of the season.

It’s great to see Philippe Coutinho back in sparkling form again. Regular readers will know that it has been N’Golo Kante, Eden Hazard and Coutinho who are my three Premier League stars competing for the player of the season award.
Had it not been for his injury sustained earlier in the year, Coutinho might have canvassed enough votes to render himself the clear favourite to receive the prestigious award, as opposed to Kante or Hazard who have both had injury-free seasons.
