Remember where you came from
Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the most polarising personalities in all of football. His duel with Lionel Messi over scoring records and Ballon d’Ors has become the stuff of legend and he has as many ardent admirers as staunch critics around the world. Underneath the veneer of arrogance and petulance, the Madeira native still remains a driven, hard-working soul who has given his all towards reaching where he is today. And he hasn’t forgotten his roots.
His transfer to Real Madrid may have been acrimonious in parts but Ronaldo cherishes his time at Manchester United – so much so that he is set to release a range of Nike Mercurial boots that take inspiration from his time at Old Trafford.
The Portuguese often cites his time under Sir Alex Ferguson as crucial to his success and has chosen to pay tribute in his own unique way. United supporters still have great affection for Ronaldo and his latest gesture has certainly strengthened those feelings. After all, he came to Old Trafford a boy and left it as the one and only CR7.
