Manchester United have not been able to perform at the superior levels that are expected from a club of their stature, but a lot of this changed with just one game today.
In a game that had everything from goals to red cards, United beat bottom-placed Sunderland 3-0 at the Stadium of Light.
Striker Zlatan Ibrahimović stepped up to the occasion once again with a sublime 20-yard curling strike, which was also his 17th goal of the season.
The visitors took advantage of Larsson’s sending off just before half time, and exploited 10-man Sunderland with a goal courtesy of Henrikh Mkhitarayn, before Marcus Rashford finished the game with a late effort.
The victory placed United on the fifth spot on the table now and opened up small chances of still being able to secure a Champions League spot.
And reiterating their willingness to keep fighting on, Mkhitarayn threw open a challenge to other top-four contenders. A simple yet quite an effective message, Mkhi wrote: “Top 4 challenge continues”.
