Arsenal legend David Seaman showed he’s a massive Leeds fan before the Newcastle game

Life-long fan

David Seaman – a man whose name brings to mind a fabulous moustache, bizarre goalkeeping jerseys and a brilliant legacy at Arsenal. The ex-England custodian is intimately linked with the Gunners and it’s only fitting after the years of excellent service he provided as Arsene Wenger turned the club into one of the best teams in the world at the turn of the century.

What many would have probably forgotten is that Seaman is actually a product of the Leeds United Academy, having come through the ranks there before turning professional – and as it turns out, the once ponytail-adorned goalie is a life-long fan of the Peacocks.

Seaman showed his support for Leeds on Twitter before the crunch tie with Newcastle United which eventually ended 1-1, and his allegiance brought an equal measure of delight and surprise from social media users. When quizzed about his support, Seaman even confirmed his commitment as a Leeds fan by stating “Always have been!”

It’s often easy to forget that footballers were once just fans as well who may go on to play for their childhood team, or even end up representing their bitter rivals at some stage. This was a brilliant moment from Big Dave – and fans from Leeds, Arsenal and elsewhere (perhaps not Newcastle) would have loved it.
