The Monk’s Call
Garry Monk is a man of the people. Never the flashiest player on the pitch, the young manager has always made up for that by proving himself a leader of men. He has moulded Leeds United into a cohesive defensive unit with a talented forward line as they continue their charge for the play-off positions. Currently in 5th place with only a handful of games remaining, every result is make-or-break at this stage.
As a result, Monk has reached out to one of Leeds’ greatest assets – the supporters. The insanity of the away supporters as they snatched a point at Newcastle United last week at the very death was but a sample of the fervour provided by the home fans at Elland Road, and the manager has issued a rallying cry with a personal message from his Twitter account to turn the stadium into “a cauldron of noise again”. The Leeds faithful responded with full vigour and a promise to live up to the boss’ instructions.
Wolverhampton Wanderers will be the unfortunate ones tasked with silencing the charged atmosphere – and it certainly won’t be easy playing 11 versus 11 plus about 30,000 feisty home supporters.
