Despite being one of the lesser glamorous divisions in English football, the U-23 Premier League tie between Liverpool and Manchester City was nonetheless always going to be a fiery affair with both clubs boasting a plethora of young talents in their squads.
And amid all the fevered anticipation, the match did deliver superbly in terms of quality and drama as Liverpool secured a late 3-2 win over their Manchester counterparts on Monday.
It was Liverpool substitute Matty Virtue’s injury time goal that clinched the win for Liverpool after Ben Woodburn had scored either side of the half for Liverpool. Woodburn in particular was very impressive on the night as he constantly harassed the City defence scoring the two goals to earn the man of the match award.
The 17 year old who was also linked to Real Madrid earlier this month does look destined for greatness with the young striker possessing a rare blend of talent combined with humility both on and off the pitch.
This was evident once again as Woodburn was spotted helping out the Liverpool staff by wheeling away the drinks trolley after the match.
